Mr. Schreiber represented the owner of a house taken by Florida City for a transportation project. The city had appraised the dwelling at $150,000 based upon its size and poor condition and refused to offer more than $160,000 during pre-suit negotiations. A long legal battle ensued that included an appeal on the Order of Taking and arguments over the negative influence that the project would have on the surrounding property values. Shortly prior to trial, the city agreed to pay $225,000 together with attorneys’ fees, appraisal fees and other costs.
Initial offer: $150,000 / Final Compensation: $225,000
